Forging – Railroad Spike Knife

April 14, 2021 @ 8:00 am 10:00 am

In this class you will forge a knife from a railroad spike, putting your own twist on the design. The class is free and limited to 6 people. Each attendee needs to register individually and must be at least 18 years old.

The blacksmithing program is called War Horse Forge. You will be guided through the project step-by-step. No experience is needed! Everyone will get a safety briefing before you begin. You will work hard, learn something new, and have a great time. They are located at 81 Whispering Pines Lane, Stafford, VA.

What to Wear

Their building is heated and cooled naturally. Please dress warmly, in layers, and wear cotton clothing (no synthetic materials). Closed-toed shoes are required. Warm, comfortable boots are a great idea.

What to Bring

Bring your own facemask, eye protection, and leather gloves. They will provide a heat-resistant face shield. Ear protection is highly recommended and they will have disposable earbuds. A water bottle and snacks are a good idea as you will get a workout! There will NOT be lunch provided.

Precautions due to COVID-19

Face masks must be worn at all times. If you need to remove your face mask, just step outside the forge and open-air work area (marked by the circle of stumps) and keep six feet away from everyone.

  • We plan on having a class at least once a month. As always, classes are FREE to all emergency personnel and their families.
